It’s been rainy and cold these last couple days. We’ll wake up in the morning and the sky will seem to say “Go ahead, dress for warm weather. Look- the sky is blue, right?” But we know that if we go outside dressed in light clothes the clouds will spitefully laugh at us and it will start to RAIN. Sure enough, the sky above us was clear this morning, but dark menacing clouds were waiting just beyond in all four directions, so we doubled up our jackets and went outside to miss the Strassbahn 6 (the streetcar) and wait for the next one like we do every morning.
We’ve realized that “weekend” just means “time to do more work” and we spent the day catching up on reader paper work, planning our next party, scheduling, etc. Don’t worry- we did plenty of relaxing, tea drinking, chocolate eating, and facebooking too.
When it was time to go home, we locked up and stepped outside into the rain to see a beautiful rainbow. I’ve never seen a rainbow in the evening before, but here, as the sun was going down, was the biggest, warmest rainbow I’ve ever seen. We tried to take a picture of it, but the light was too mellow for the camera. As we were trying to keep the camera dry, change the settings to get the picture, oohing and aahing, the 6 came up behind us. During the morning and afternoon the streetcar comes about every ten minutes, but in the evening, it only comes about every half hour. If we missed it, we would have to wait for thirty minutes in the rain. So, with bags open, camera out and umbrella out, we began sprinting and screaming after the 6. Can you say American? It got to the stop way before us, people got off, people got on, the doors closed- and here’s the part where we should have missed it and it should have gone on, but no – for some reason the doors opened again and we ran up and breathlessly got on.
So what did we learn?
Sometimes in life you get distracted by something captivating that promises to be beautiful, but doesn’t last, and you miss the thing takes you where you are supposed to be going, but when you should have gotten left in the rain, someone opens the doors again and lets you on anyway.
Love, Abby and Emily
Beautiful, girls.
